Meet the Blog Designers

Meet the Blog Designers

Meet the Blog Designers - a series of interviews with some fabulous designers I've discovered who will have some great design insights for you. These are designers whose work I deeply admire and designers who work a lot with women and understand their styles and what they need. All on DesignYourOwnBlog.com.

I often get asked if I do any freelance work.

The answer (for the moment) is “no.”

It’s not because I don’t like to work with people on their designs.

The problem is I work full time as a web designer, then I blog about blog design and I’m a mom to a three year old. Working on DYOB is like another full time job in itself, and so I’m just not able to give individual clients the time and attention they would deserve.

But when people ask me, I feel like I need to refer them to someone. There are lots of web designers out there, but we all have to find someone that we click with:

  • Someone that does the type of design we prefer,
  • Someone who excels at what we specifically need (we all have different needs and specialties),
  • And most importantly, someone we enjoy working with.

So here begins my new series…Meet the Blog Designer!

It’ll be a series of interviews with some fabulous designers I’ve discovered who will have some great design insights for you. These are designers whose work I deeply admire and designers who work a lot with women and understand their styles and what they need.

I won’t be getting any sort of compensation for recommending any of them. My only wish is to help you find someone you’ll be happy with.

How to Choose a Blog Designer

When you’re ready to hire a designer, my advice is to check out a few portfolios, pick out the ones you really like, then contact a couple of them. Tell them what you’re looking to do and ask questions based on what you’re looking for, their procedures, turn-around times, etc. Most of them will probably have a few questions of their own for you and then they’ll be able to give you a quote.

I recommend speaking to and getting at least 2-3 quotes before selecting a designer. And don’t select one based on the price alone. Pick the designer that seems to understand your needs the best.

    Marianne,
Are you saying here that if someone (like me) wanted to sub-contract their website development (to me that means to do the coding and weigh in on the design) that you do not do this, but you recommend the people on this list?

I design and develop sites for some of my clients and for others I am more of a coach/consultant and would like to hire someone else to actually build the websites (and I use the term website and blog interchangeably — I mean WordPress-based websites) OR if it is someone who is not a good fit for me to work with, I’d like to refer them to someone else for the whole shebang.

Hi Liz, yes I wanted to have a place for recommended designers when people ask me if I do freelance work (which I do not).

Feel free to send people to this page if you want to refer them to someone else!
