Friday Faves #11: a weekly dose of lovely design inspiration

Friday Faves: Your Weekly Dose of Blog Design Inspiration from http://www.DesignYourOwnBlog.com

Your Weekly Dose of Blog Design Inspiration!

Hello lovelies!

I’m so sorry I missed you guys last week!

I had a family emergency and had to leave the country to where I have very little internet access. I hope you can all forgive me.

I’m back now but this might be a short edition this week since I’ve been playing catch up the last two days!

For those of you who don’t know, Friday Faves is a collection of lovely freebies and design stuff I’ve found throughout the week. It’s usually a sampling of what I share on my Facebook page so be sure to like me there for even more cool stuff!

DYOB Update:

I don’t know if you noticed, but I made my site a little narrower last week. I didn’t like how wide it was, especially how wide I had to make all my images to fit properly so I changed it.

I started this change just before I left last week and I’m still cleaning things up so pardon if some things look a little wonky. I’m thinking I might even go a little narrower. Thoughts?

Unfortunately none since Friday Faves #10 two weeks ago! But you can take this opportunity to check out the archives (they’re really not that old!) and learn something new!

Emerging Design Trend

Have you noticed there’s been a resurgence of marble lately? I’m not quite sure how I feel about it as it’s always made me think of that horrid green and pink marble you see in gaudy Italian houses.

Sorry if you’re Italian and have a lot of marble, it’s just not my thing. I grew up in New Jersey and most of my friends were Italian, k? 😉

I do like this kind of marbling though!

I first heard of marble coming back when it recently appeared in Pugly Pixel. Then Love from Ginger brought it up again last week with some pretty cool links.

Looking around, I see that marbling can be much more than the pink and green stuff, there are some cool things you can do with it.

What do you think of this new trend? Are you digging it or what?

I’ve been listening to a series of really amazing podcasts called The Fizzle Show from the guys at ThinkTraffic.

Lots of incredibly useful and candid info about growing your blog, plus they’re really funny to listen to. I laughed a few times out loud on the plane listening to this last week!

Warning: Occasionally these guys can get a little crass so if you’re easily offended you may not want to take a listen. But I’d have to say that’s your loss!

Thanks, Marianne, for the kind words about the fizzle show!!

    Hi there,

Welcome back! I hope your trip went smoothly. The blog looks great. I don’t remember its previous width — but this one works well. I don’t like to read blogs that are too wide. Thanks for these tips, I just subscribed to The Fizzle Show.

    • Marianne says:

Hi Susan, thank you! And I agree, I don’t like when they’re too wide either, makes the line-lengths harder to read. So I may work on making it even narrower. It’s the percentages that are throwing me for a loop 😉

I think you’ll really enjoy the podcast, I’ve been listening on my commute every day.

Hi Marianne! Hmm I don’t know how I feel about the marble trend just yet. I’m in the middle. I like it on some mediums but not on others. I like when it looks more like watercolor than marble too. However, that is how I felt about other trends and after seeing them a few times on other projects I slowly fall in love with them. 🙂

      Hi Tori!
I agree, I tend to like the watercolor/marble look too.
And I’m the same way about trends…. takes me a little while to warm up to certain trends as well!

I love that Halloween joke! Maybe I can feel a little better about my housekeeping skills. Haha! I am so addicted to PicMonkey…I could play on there forever. I do wish I could do a little more with it, but it’s such a great tool! Thanks for sharing Fizzle…I’d never heard of them before!

    • Marianne says:

Hi Michelle, you are a rockstar! So many readers and commenters, I don’t know how you manage to keep in touch with them all!

Glad I could introduce you to the guys at ThinkTraffic. They always have such valuable information, I think you’ll be pleased!
