Friday Faves! free downloads | inspiration | blog resources
Btw, none of the links in this post are affiliate links unless I say so, Iโm just sharing because I thought youโd enjoy!
My Update:
Hi everyone. Did you have a great Labor Day weekend? I sure did! I finally finished my course lesson on branding for The WP Chick so that feels great and now I’ll hopefully have some time to get back into blogging more than just Friday Faves. < -- yep i just realized i claimed this last week, but i think i lied last week ;)
Another thing I finished is a custom 404 page. What’s that you say? A 404 is the “error” page that comes up when you hit a bad link or mistype the URL for a web page. Your blog probably has a default one built in which is fine, but a custom one allows you to direct people to where you would like them to go. I’ll be writing up a post about that for next week so stay tuned…
My latest posts:
I found a little time for one post other than last week’s Friday Faves:
My friend Stacy redesigned her blog this week all on her own and she attributed it to reading my blog and eBook. How cool is that?
Free Downloads:
Found this great font called Corki v.2 that you can either download for free or for a donation of your choice from Typedepot.
Don’t forget this week’s free photo and vector from Shutterstock. Stock up now to use later!

Yet another high quality resource for designers: free PSDs (Photoshop* files), fonts, and code snippets. What’s not to like??
Lovely Blog Crush:
Mint102
I think I discovered these guys (Angela + Sara) on Pinterest and their designs are seriously amazing! I mean I wish I had HALF their talent! I just adore the watercolor effect (so hot right now!) and the use of the beautiful Bombshell Pro font. Seriously LOVE this font, I’ll probably end up buying it soon.
Anyways, you’ve most likely seen Mint102’s branding boards all over Pinterest as they are some of the most beautiful ones out there. Which reminds me… if you’re thinking about redesigning your blog, a brand mood board is a MUST! I will be creating a template for you guys here in the very near future!
Lovely Blog Themes I Found:
This is kind of cool, I found the same theme/template for both Blogger AND WordPress! You don’t see that much.
For Blogger:
For WordPress:
I wish I could tell you it was also free for WordPress but it’s not. You have to buy the Genesis framework from StudioPress first. (Psst… That was an affiliate link, however I LOVE Genesis! My own site is run off of it!)
Have a Lovely Weekend!

Hi Marianne,
I just found your site and am loving it! I am feeling inspired and motivated to bring more beauty to my blog. I am currently running Genesis Beautiful theme and am struggling trying to find ways to adjust the color palette and fonts. I know you use Genesis and wondered if you found any useful resources, or had useful tips on how to integrate your ideas into the theme.
Thank you bunches!
Hi Jackie,
Do you mean you want to overwrite some of the color and font styles that came with the theme? If so, you’ll probably have to create a new style sheet that you can use to override the current styles. Part 4 of my opt-in tutorial actually goes into how to create a new style sheet and some simple ways to edit it. Check it out and see if it helps: http://designyourownblog.com/blog-design-resources/tutorials/how-to-design-a-custom-opt-in-form-without-a-plugin-part-4/
Marianne–
Thank you! This is fabulous. I am totally in love with this site and am going to recommend it to everyone I come across wanting to make a blog. Thanks for doing what you do!
Thank you so much Jackie, that is so sweet of you!
