Offering a Solution to Your Target Audience

In this step, we'll find a real problem (or set of problems) that a specific set of people (your target audience) have and figure out how to solve it in your own unique way.

Website Planner. Step 2: Offering a solution to your target audience

So how can you offer a solution to a problem that a lot of people have in a way that is better and/or different than everyone else? How do you stand out in a sea of bloggers talking about the same thing?

Differentiation

Take a look at what other people who serve your market are doing and how they are proposing to solve their problem(s). Then think about the gaps that exist that aren’t currently being filled.

Is there a unique twist or perspective you can add that makes the solution yours alone? It might help to think about what it is that has personally helped you with this problem in the past.

Exercise: In your Website Planner, brainstorm ways you can offer solutions to match your ideal customer’s problems/frustrations that are different or better than everything else out there. Then select a winner and go with this solution.

Things to Consider About Your Offer

Once you have your solution, here are a few things to consider.

Viability

Think about whether it is worthwhile to your target audience. Is it something they really need or want?

The Client/Audience Experience

What type of experience does your offer entail? How will they purchase it, what will you offer them? How will you offer it to them?

Price

What kind of value are you offering for your price point? Is it a no-brainer for your audience? Play with price points. Too high and people may walk away without even learning more. Too low and people might be worried about “getting what they pay for.”

Test Your Solution

Once you’ve offered your solution to your target audience, pay attention to how they react to it.

If they seem to like what you offer, see how you can explore more options that are similar or that add on to your original offer. If you don’t get good reception from it, then you may need to explore a bit more and see what else you can offer instead.

Finding the right offer takes lots of love, plenty of experimentation, and a good amount of time. So be patient with yourself and do some discovery work. Don’t give up too quickly on the first solution you go with. Every offer takes time to grow as well as a lot of dedication to marketing and connecting with your target audience.

There may come a time, however, when you realize that your offer is just not resonating with anyone out there. If this happens, go back to your Website Planner and pick another one of your ideas from the brainstorming session to try.
